Yellow Boyz, a hip hop trio from Atlanta, became overnight celebrities in Korea on August 12, 2011 when they appeared on M-Net's #1 rated TV show Superstar K, South Korea's version of American Idol. Their charismatic performance of "Oh Nuna You" and subsequent media firestorm revolving around a controversial Youtube video both charmed and shocked an entire nation. They appeared two more times on Superstar K and were the most searched item on all Korean web portals for all demographics for two straight weeks.
The first popular artists to have their career launched in Korea through a reality TV show, Yellow Boyz remains based in Atlanta, where they have established themselves as one of the most buzzed about, hottest new groups in the South, and also as a group with deep international cultural impact. After Lee Seung Cheul, the head judge of Superstar K who at first was disgusted with Yellow Boyz, went out of his way to shout out the group during their second TV appearance, Yellow Boyz' place as the primary representative of the "Korean American" in Korea's popular culture was permanently sealed.
Yellow Boyz, comprised of Passda (age 21), Jeniside (age 22), and Al P (age 21), will headline the Asian Hip Hop Summit 10 Year Anniversary Tour, which will also feature Lyricks, Decipher, Jackie Chain, and Smokes. See www.facebook.com/asianhiphopsummit for complete tour schedule.
